午前中はなんとか明るさがあったけれど、午後になると、今にも泣き出しそうな空模様。空を仰ぎつつ表に出れば、今、まさに花の一枝を手折ったばかりの老女がひとり、目の前に。そこは確かに我が家の敷地内であり、私と眼が合ったのにも関わらず、弁解のひとつもないまま。咄嗟に口にしたのは「お花を取らないでください」無言のまま老女はゆっくりと背を向けて何事もなかったかのように歩いて行った。
枕草子の時代にも花盗人は居たようで。古人も今の人もあまり違いはないらしい。花盗人には寛容にとも思うけれど、盗み取った花を愛でて心は痛まないのだろうかと。花を取られたことはもとより、そんな心を持つ人の心が寂しい。

一 [名]《季・春》花の枝を盗み折る人。（主に桜を言うらしいとい説も。）
＊公任集（1044頃）「われが名は花ぬす人とたてばたてただ一枝は折りてかへらむ」
＊虎明本狂言花盗人（室町末・近世初）「花ぬす人には、酒をもると云程に、さけ出さうと云」
＊俳諧・古今俳諧明題集（1763）夏「見たやうな花倫児（ハナヌスヒト）やころもがへ（涼帒）」
二 狂言各流。
ある人の下屋敷の桜が盛りだというので､一同は連れ立って花見に出掛ける。見事な桜に枝を折った跡があるのを見つけ､捕まえて懲らしめてやろうと待ち伏せている｡そこへ来たのは、近くに住む出家､昨日通りがかりに美しい桜を見つけ､一枝折って稚児にあげたところ､大喜びされ､今度は大枝をほしいとねだられ、盗んだ物とも言えず､止む無く再び盗みにやって来た｡恐る恐る庭へ忍び込む出家｡待ち構えていた客人たちはあっという間に出家を捕まえ縄で縛り上げて桜の木の元へ結わえ付ける｡出家の身で盗みとはとなじられた僧は､桜に魅せられた人々が詠んだ古歌を次々に引いて､自分は盗人ではない、昔から桜の枝は折っても構わないのだと自己弁護｡そして今の有り様を歌に詠む｡『この春は花の本にて縄(名は)付きぬ(尽きぬ）鳥帽子桜と人や見るらむ』と。感心した一同は縄を解いて､出家と一緒に花見の宴を始める｡

（中略）「彼の花盗むは誰ぞ。あしかめり。」といへば、いとど逃げて、引きもて往ぬ。なほ御心はをかしうおはすかし。枝どももぬれまつはれつきて、いかにびんなきかたちならましと思ふ。ともかくもいはで入りぬ。掃部司参りて、御格子参る。主殿の女官御きよめなどに参りはてて、起きさせ給へるに、花もなければ、「あな、あさまし。あの花どもはいづち往ぬるぞ。」と仰せらる。「あかつきに『花盗人あり』といふなりつるを、なほ枝などすこしとるにやとこそ聞きつれ。誰がしつるぞ、見つや。」と仰せらる。（後略）
心こそ大切なれ
私の大好きな言葉であり、座右の銘であります。
「花盗人は泥棒（盗人）にあらず」などという格言めいた言葉があるようですが、
盗人は、泥棒です。
物を盗むだけではありませんね。同時に人の心も盗んでいる。
ましてや、他人の敷地内とは・・・・
花を愛でる心は、他人を思いやる心に通じると思います。
無言で立ち去った老婆の心が悲しい・・・
ほんとうに、悲しいですね。
お庭のお花、あまりにも美しかったので･･･すいません、と言っていただきたかったです。
お友達のお家のお庭も、とってもきれいに手入れしているのです。
いつも花盗人がたえなくて、「花をとらないでください」って紙を貼ったりしなくてはいけないほどで･･･
心をこめて育てていることや、そこに咲いていてほしい、気持ち･･･わかってほしいです。

だからといって、どんなお花でも取っていいわけではなくて。

「お花を盗らないでください」という想いをあえて鎮めて言ったのだけど、
こちらの真意が伝わったのかどうか。
お花というものだけでなく、人の心をも盗んでいるということ。
平然と立ち去る心もまた人かと思うと寂しさと切なさと空しさが去来します。
